Julie + Craig | Christina Lake - December Wedding | West Kootenay Wedding Photographer
It’s hard to believe that I spent just over 4 hours with Julie and Craig on their big day back in December. It was my last wedding of the season and it was absolutely beautiful! Being the 7th of December we didn’t know what the weather would do. Would there be snow on the ground? Would it be snowing? raining? sun? So many variables at this time of year in the Kootenays. One thing we knew for sure was that the show would go on, regardless of what the day was going to bring. I arrived with my assistant for the day, Mitch, just a little before I was scheduled to start and was able to capture some indoor details before the guests arrived. Julie and her team of helpers had done such an amazing job with the decor for this cabin themed winter wedding. Birch tree cuttings, twinkling fairy lights, burlap and pines in the florals, everything was so well thought out. The cabin itself had been in the family for years and in recent years has been completely remodelled and was right on the lake to boot!
Once Julie and her bridesmaids were ready, her and Craig did a quick first look and then we made our short one minute drive down the road to a boat launch dock. When I had driven by the dock earlier, I was a little nervous about how photos there would turn out, the day was in-fact a little “dreary” with low hanging clouds. However, as soon as our beautiful bride, groom and wedding party entered the frame it was magical! The low hanging clouds made for the most whimsical backdrop, accompanied with the mountains and calm waters. We played there for a bit before making our way to a wooded area just behind the cabin, then made our way back for the ceremony. We had been lucky, the rain had held off and everyone was dry, a little cold but dry. Just as the ceremony started so did the rain, light at first, but nothing to damped the mood of the festivities. The ceremony was short, personal and perfect. Just as we finished up immediate family photos the rain really started up and we made our way inside to complete family and friend portraits along with candids of guests.
The time we spent together was so much fun and I am so happy for this amazing couple to have said “I do” surrounded by their closest family and friends. This adventurous, kite surfing couple are now working hard to keep their community safe, with Julie being a nurse she is now working on the frontline at the Grandforks hospital during this Covid-19 pandemic. So in closing i’m sending out my greatest gratitude to this amazing woman and her hubby during this time and saying thank you! Not only for having be document your big day, but for all the work you are doing for your community. Stay safe, stay healthy.
