Apple Harvest in the Okanagan

Having lived on an apple/cherry orchard for the past 5 years I have been in awe of two things; first of all the AMAZING view from my deck and secondly how BEAUTIFUL the fruit right outside my door is. Every March the workers from Mexico start showing up, a couple at first and then all of a sudden BAM everyone is back and the buckets of cherries get filled, and every year I say to myself "I should photograph that..." and then next thing I know all the cherries are gone. Then I do the exact same thing for the apples and it has turned into vicious 5 year cycle.

Well this year like every other was shaping up to be the exact same way. The cherries came and went and yet again I was kicking myself in the ass. At the end of August, I again took notice in the apples and how it looked like they could be picked any day, so I did my due diligence and asked when they were expecting to pick. This time I made sure I was going to be home and ready with my camera. I wasn't about to miss another year of them harvesting the apples.

It was September 9th to be exact, approximately 10:50 a.m Raine had just gone down for her nap and it was show time! I gave the baby monitor to the owner of the house so someone would have eyes on my little sleeper. Grabbed my camera and took off into the orchard. Lucky for me they were starting a stones throw away from my back door so I didn't have to venture too far. I can not believe how quickly these guys work! It was insane! It was like watching the Road Runner but with apples! Over the years the workers have come to know me and we speak a little to one another. Mostly hello and how are you, their english isn't the best and my spanish is next to nothing. None of them seemed to mind me getting right into their personal space, although one who I know better than the others kept saying "whiskey! whiskey!"...I might owe them some whiskey for allowing me to photograph them...we haven't quite worked it out yet...

He runs the show!
