Newborn Photo Session - Kaia

At the start of the month I had the absolute pleasure of shooting one of the cutest baby girls! When I got to the house I was most excited to get some snuggles in, as this little cherub belongs to my good friend Kristen. I hadn't been to visit since she was born and I couldn't have been more thrilled to meet the newest addition to the family! Baby Kaia was born on July 26th, so by then she was just over a month old.

Often times people think that if they don't get newborn photos done within the first 1-2 weeks they've missed their window, or you might as well not do it at all. To that I say, "no way!" on a personal note I like to wait until the baby is more alert. Sleeping baby photos are cute and popular. For me, baby, wide eyed and giving cute little grins makes it all worth the wait.

Sweet little Kaia at this point was already getting to be pretty alert so I knew it was going to be hard if not impossible to get photos of her sleeping. Similar to my baby girl when she was this age, ever so inquisitive and interested in everything! She was a little mover and a shaker as well and already had the best facial expressions, not to mention those big brown eyes!

After a visit and lots of cuddles I set up the backdrop. As in every newborn shoot I do, I aim to work in the best lighting the house has to offer; usually near a large window. At Kristen's house that spot was in the ding room next to a double wide opening glass door. The lighting was ideal. I prefer to use natural lighting especially when photographing babies, I really don't want to blind them with flash or reflectors. Once everything was all set up it was about an hour, taking breaks for feeding, and "wardrobe changes"

I couldn't be happier with the results!

If you or someone you know is looking to get newborn photos done, I'd love to work with you! Please visit my website for newborn session packages!
