Back Alleys & Bridges - With Kiana
I moved from Trail to Kelowna in 2007. Usually, when I return home it's just to visit family, but this trip ended up being partially business as I had a couple shoots booked as well. This is the first year I decided to really grab life by the horns and take my photography to a whole new level. It was the first time since high school that I shot there and I forgot what a diamond in the rough it is. Surprisingly, Trail has some amazingly photogenic locations. Around every corner, there are back alleyways full of character or weathered stairwells that carry so much history. The most recent addition to the downtown core is the new walking bridge, which stole the show.
One of the shoots I had scheduled was for my sister in-law Kiana. She is currently studying music at the Selkirk College Contemporary Music and Technology Program. Not only does she write her own music, she sings and plays guitar too. She is such an unbelievably talented young woman. We set out to do a basic portrait shoot, mostly to promote her year end showcase but it progressed into so much more. Not only will she have a killer image for her showcase, but she now has a beautiful gallery she can use to help brand herself and her music. It was a ridiculously cold day, but Kiana embraced the cold and just went for it. The end result was better than I could have hoped for.
Portrait sessions don't need to be just a basic head shot. Adding your style and personality to a shoot creates a whole new dynamic
